Fire & Smoke Damage- Moving & Storage
In certain circumstances, such as heavy smoke or significant structural damage, property may have to be removed from the home and brought into a controlled environment to be processed. This service is known as “pack-out”. Property removal serves many purposes:
- It gives the technician access to more aggressive restoration processes in the controlled environment of our plant.
- It provides the re-building contractor an empty house in which to complete the repairs in a safe and efficient manner.
- It affords the technician adequate time to meticulously clean each and every item.
RestorTech technicians are trained in the safe and proper handling techniques to pack and move your most cherished belongings. Breakable items are packed in either tissue or bubble wrap then carefully placed into corrugated cardboard boxes. Upholstered furniture is shrink-wrapped in plastic and hard furniture is wrapped in padded blankets before moving.
All furniture pieces are digitally photographed and carefully inventoried to ensure your property is accounted for in every step of the restoration. Due to the economies of scale, we generalize boxed contents, in other words, it is cost prohibitive to expend the time to list every individual item that goes into a box.
Once the property arrives at our warehouse, furniture is placed into palletized crates for short term storage. This enables us to keep customers’ belongings separate from others. Boxed goods are stored on racks to allow us easy access for cleaning restoration.
Our technicians are trained to attempt to restore only those items that do not appear to have been permanently damaged by the effects of fire, smoke and water. Property that cannot be completely restored is simply left at the site so that it can be listed for the insurance company. At times there will be items that do not respond 100% or there may be certain items that have special, sentimental, value and any type of restoration would be acceptable. In any event, all property taken by RestorTech will be returned to you for inspection.
