Vacation Checklist

Most people don’t realize that there is constant water pressure to washing machines, sinks and toilets which can burst at any time. This is why you should always remember to turn off the water supply to these appliances before leaving your home for an extended period of time. You should also remember that electrical outages from thunder storms can leave your home in the dark for hours or even days at a time. This could result in a significant expense if you have to replace everything that was in your refrigerator! The USDA recommends that perishable food that has not been maintained at temperatures of 40° or below for more than 2 hours should not be consumed.Remember, non-essential electrical appliances should be unplugged. Why risk the possibility of fire from short circuits, power surges and the like? And last on the checklist, don’t forget to turn off the water valves to outdoor spigots! Suppose the friendly neighbors need to borrow some water and leave the outdoor spigot slightly open. The ground outside swells with water and soon your basement is flooded from hydrostatic pressure. This fiasco can be avoidedl Please make use of our Vaction Checklist provided below.

  • Turn off water supply line to washing machine
  • Turn off water supply lines to toilets and sinks
  • Remove perishable food from the refrigerator or freezer
  • Unplug counter top appliances
  • Close water valves to outdoor spigots

Pollen

The key to cleaning when it comes to pollen is in the vacuum cleaner. Vacuums equipped with true High Efficiency Particle Arresting (HEPA) filters are the best source for removal and containment of airborne contaminates. Other, less equipped machines often contribute to the problem by redistributing particulate brought into the machine and exhausting it out without being properly filtered. No matter what we are cleaning; upholstery, carpets, draperies, area rugs, etc., all vacuums used in your home by RestorTech are rated as true HEPA vacuums.

Hot water extraction cleaning is the most effective way to clean pollen out of carpets and upholstery without redistributing it to other areas of the home. Pollen is literally flushed out of the fibers by high pressure, super heated, fiber conditioning rinse and recovered by powerful vacuum extraction. For all you allergy sufferers, we also have hypo-allergenic detergents to use in our cleaning machines.

We also recommend, for those of you with central air conditioning, using a high-end furnace filter during the heavy-pollen season. These filters are generally made of pleated fabric and electrically charged to attract soil. The thin fibrous blue colored filters that sell for around a dollar are completely ineffective when it comes to removing small airborne particulate. You might also consider having your duct system cleaned if it’s been awhile. Please see our Specialty Services Network and call Americlean.
