Residential Cleaning Services- Pet Damage
Pet damage, usually in the form of urine stains, typically involves a little more work than just “cleaning”. Some of the problems with this form of undesirable pet behavior are that it is often recurring and can affect numerous areas. This makes the task of locating the affected areas and treating them challenging. It is critical to treat this problem at the source rather than simply cleaning the carpet (which often makes the problem worse).
Ultraviolet light can be used to locate damaged areas. Once we have determined the areas of contamination, further investigation must be done to find out the extent of the saturation. Pets will often frequent favorite places causing an accumulation of repeated soiling.
Treating this problem can involve many steps depending on the severity. Topical treatments rarely work because they are unable to treat the areas below the surface where the urine has collected. As is the case with water losses, the underlayment (pad or cushion) is where most of the problem is. Removal of the contaminated material, as well as treatment of any sub structures that may have been affected (wood floor, concrete, etc.), is followed by a thorough cleaning of both sides of the contaminated material to flush out the urine. This method is occasionally effective. If this proves successful in removing the odor, new padding can then be installed and the carpet re-attached.
Even after all of this effort, some urine damage can never be corrected. The only recourse at this point is replacement. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee results when working with urine damaged materials.
